UC Davis students have a few ways of exploring school organizations and clubs - through social media, word of mouth, in-person tabling, and AggieLife, the official school platform for club search.
But Clubly wasn't always the vision - the team went through multiple rounds of iteration, starting with a university life discovery platform, where students could browse activities and locations on campus. This idea was scrapped because the team, through user interviews and data collected from surveys, confirmed that 30% of students are not currently participants of clubs due to not knowing anyone, not knowing how to get involved in a club, and not being able to find a club they are interested in. Meanwhile, 27% of students reported they would join a club to feel more integrated in the community.
Clubly picked up steam in Fall 2022, where the team worked on the first iteration. The goal was to allow UC Davis students to efficiently discover clubs and organizations in one organized application and personalize the search experience.
Allow UC Davis students to efficiently discover clubs and organizations in one organized application and personalize the search experience.
The original concept focused heavily on personalizing the club discovery experience through an onboarding quiz. The application would feel like a dashboard, where users could add clubs to folders - similar to how a music listener might add songs to a playlist.
Further user research indicated that students did not find these initial features useful. The Clubly team moved forward with a new MVP - to significantly reduce search time, enabling users to search for and discover their preferred club in the shortest possible time.
Simplify club discovery by empowering students to find and connect with clubs that matter most to them.
CONCLUSION
Clubly has transformed the way UC Davis students connect with clubs and organizations. By providing an easy-to-use platform that offers personalized recommendations and detailed club profiles, Clubly empowers students to find the communities that will enhance their college experience. From professional development to making lifelong friends, Clubly is making it easier than ever for students to engage with campus life. As the platform continues to evolve, we’re excited to introduce new features and grow our partnerships with clubs to ensure that every student finds their place at UC Davis.
